A not-so-long time ago in a place not-so-far away from here, I was digging into my Bible with ferocity in hopes to dissuade my insidious doubts about the faith to which I had dedicated my life. At the time, I only had believers around me to help me think through my concerns, but that just wasn’t enough. I also wanted to hear other perspectives and open myself up to the (frightening) possibility that I’d been mistaken all my life. Not knowing anyone helpful in this regard, I turned to the internet and its gigantic population.

Until I started this search for truth, I  never truly appreciated Youtube as a meeting place for ideas, learning and debate. It may have the least mature comments sections on the internet, but much of the content I found was just what I needed to start my brain churning.

There are so many amazing atheists and skeptics on youtube that this list seems almost trivial. I haven’t even named the great scientists and learning channels I’ve found (perhaps that will come at a later date). Even so, I want you to enjoy these users and let them know if you appreciate the hard work they’ve put into their videos. Perhaps one of you also wants that little push to question and examine your beliefs. This list is a good place to start!

I love most of those. Atheist Experience Channel is great without sound…but the sound always hurts my ears when it’s turned up enough to hear.

I really prefer the Skeptoid podcast over the YT channel, but that may be because they’re more in-depth…or because the podcasts only have really dedicated wackos screaming in the comments section. Youtube just has degenerate semi-human beings vomiting forth whatever spew and bile happens to be lurching in their gullet.

Great list. Some that I haven’t heard of that I’ll be checking out. You missed one of my favorites, ZOMGitsCriss, who’s funny, bright, and sassy.

I like your blog, and I’ll be reading.

Sorry, I have no idea where the wacky ass avatar next to my name came from. I didn’t choose it. I like Arallyn’s cow, though.

It’s a default avatar system for people without Gravatars. Little monsters show up instead of blank gray graphics or something else ugly. It’s an option within WordPress.

She’s great too! 🙂 I tried to include some channels many people might not know about yet. I could make 15 more of these types of lists for atheists alone!

Keet · January 4, 2011 at 4:17 pm

Don’t forget about Phil Hellenes. Only a few videos, but great stuff.

That’s great, I didn’t know about that one!

Henway · January 4, 2011 at 8:32 pm

Most of those channels are good resources for atheists but some of them are just too negative such as atheist-community. They seem intent on disproving believers without replacing the Gospel with some sort of positive humanistic message.

    johannthecabbie · January 6, 2011 at 5:22 am

Disproving believers is a positive humanistic message.

    greengeekgirl · January 22, 2011 at 4:41 am

I totally get what you mean. My husband is an atheist philosopher and frequently gets annoyed at atheists that I watch on youtube. (By atheist philosopher, I mean that he has had formal training in college as a philosopher.. it’s not just a grand self-bestowed title :D) Although I love agreeing with people when they point out how weird/incongruent/violent/hypocritical/etc many religions are, I think the tone sometimes hurts the cause more than helps it. And I’m sure I’m guilty of that tone, as well.

TheSecretAtheist · January 5, 2011 at 2:22 am

You might want to go back and insert /user between the youtube url and the /username so that the urls load properly. Just maybe. 🙂

I have a plugin that switches them back to the old format. Gotta submit a support ticket about that! Thanks for mentioning it.

mcbender · January 6, 2011 at 10:40 am

I was going to recommend Philhellenes, but it seems like he’s already gotten a mention above. However, there are a couple more great ones:

Evid3nc3 – he has a very well-presented series about his deconversion from Christianity

Thunderf00t – need I say more?

Hi there! This is my first comment here so I just wanted to give a quick shout out and say I truly enjoy reading through your blog posts.

Can you suggest any other blogs/websites/forums that cover the same topics?
Thanks!

this topic to be actually something which I think I would never understand.
It seems too complicated and very broad for me. I’m looking forward
for your next post, I will try to get the
hang of it!

First of all I would like to say wonderful blog! I had a quick question which I’d
like to ask if you don’t mind. I was curious to know how
you center yourself and clear your thoughts before writing.
I’ve had a hard time clearing my mind in getting my thoughts out.
I do take pleasure in writing but it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes
are generally wasted simply just trying to figure out how to begin. Any suggestions or hints?
Kudos!
