Something tells me most Christians would laugh at this theology, and not just us atheists.

Yes. It’s histerical.

It makes you wonder what their mums and dads were like. “We love you as long as you obey every rule – even the rules that contradict the other rules.”

    Tom Armstrong · March 2, 2011 at 2:23 pm

Oh, yes! Andrew, that’s one of the things that got me to leave churches behind.

Nicole Schand · March 2, 2011 at 3:02 pm

Hooray for contradictions, amirite?

yep, no strings attached at all there, none what so ever. 🙂

Unconditional love was a big thing in my church days. My parents still go on about it, but I never understood how a God that loved you unconditionally could send you to hell. So this sign really makes perfect sense, and while some Christians would think it was stupid many of them still believe what that sign says, whether they realize it or not. At lest this church has the balls to admit it.

I am also curious if I am the only person who things unconditional love is bullshit? I used to live my life like that, letting asshole “friends” walk all over me because they were my friends. Even if they were rude or douchebags I still loved them and was there for them simply because we were “friends.” I know first hand, it is not healthy to love those who can’t even see you as a person worthy of respect. Why do so many people praise unconditional love? Why is it seen as such a virtue? Just curious.

So true — unless it’s not.

A local bike path has two different churches along the ride. Signs like these always add some humor to my ride.

Hilarious. I bet the pastor who posted that up thinks this was funny too.

Ah the church signs… There is one that I pass every time I leave my neighborhood. It used to change regularly, some new stupid pun, but for the past two months it has simply said “CONSIDER JESUS” on both sides.

    greengeekgirl · March 7, 2011 at 4:32 am

    Oh, I’ve considered Jesus quite a lot. I’ve considered him non-existent, contradictory . . . . .

ExFundie · March 4, 2011 at 2:06 pm

Sure, it’s unconditional. However, side effects include forever roasting in the fires of hell.

greengeekgirl · March 7, 2011 at 4:31 am

Wow, that’s officially the best church sign I’ve seen just in terms of sheer irony. It even beats out the now-second-best sign I’ve seen: “Get crunked for Jesus!”

TheSecretAtheist · March 7, 2011 at 2:19 pm

I saw one last fall while driving up to visit a friend in north Georgia, “Are we all becoming Muslims?” On a First Baptist church of some small city or another in Georgia or South Carolina.

I shit you not.

    greengeekgirl · March 11, 2011 at 11:27 am

    Are we all….

Mon dieu, that is the most idiotic and ignorant thing I’ve read in the past .. well, at least in the past hour or two.

jay · March 13, 2011 at 4:57 pm

less than laugh… we shake our heads in disappointment at the amount of bad theology that is in the majority of christian churches today.

Jenny · March 14, 2011 at 8:16 pm

Sister: (driving past a church that has a sign) That’s such a nice verse, but it kind of makes me mad.
Me: Why?
Sister: They say it’s from “Phil”. There’s no Phil in the Bible!
Me: …Phil is short for Philippians.
Sister: Oh, haha.
Me: (face palm)

    Godless Girl · March 15, 2011 at 1:29 am

Dammit, sign makers, don’t you know his name is George!?

Emma Bail · March 17, 2011 at 3:54 am

I agree that God’s love is totally unconditional to us and He loves us without excepting anything from us.The second sentences is really funny that He loves us only if we are obeying him. There is nothing like that His love never depending on any condition and it’s beyond our understanding.

keep faith in God’s Love……

Don Jennings · June 12, 2011 at 12:35 pm

The signs in front of protestant churches are among the best arguments against Christianity that there are. It’s a bit like Robert Price’s wonderful observation “to explain apologetics is to refute it”
