Speaking of my avatar: I have a soft spot for my faceless cartoon girl. She’s anonymous like me, rather cute, and easily recognizable. I’m just not sure if I should stick with her. I threw her together last-minute when I needed an image for twitter back in ’09. Is she really a part of the Godlessgirl image? I’ve used the same avatar everywhere since I started this persona? I’m not sure how important she is to recognition and all that whatnot. Anyway, why am I harping on a stupid image?

The logo actually means something to me. I’d like to build a cohesive “look” to my site, but since I love changing the template once in a while, I’d like something that will grow with me and fit a few different looks.

If you’re interested in helping me, I’d like the text in Comic Sans with a Papyrus font change on mouseover. Also, if it could glitter like this and maybe make a sort of “glass crashing” noise when you click on it, that’d be soooooo cool. My goal is to gain exposure on this site.

In other news, I was called a “Harry Potter idol worshiper”  on my tumblr yesterday. Let me say this: if Jesus’ story was written by J.K. Rowling, I might like him a little better, okay? And Jesus’ scars aren’t lightning bolt shaped. Case closed.

I enjoy changing the aesthetic of my blog every once in a while. So far, I think I’ve sent GodlessGirl.com through about 4 or 5 significant layout swaps. Here’s a huge shout-out to WordPress! It’s what makes my “hopey changey” thing work so well. I can’t imagine using another blog platform! *wipes away a creeping tear*

This current theme was made by Spaceperson, and I snatched some inspiration from the fabulous new-to-me-and-immediately-subscribed blog Life Is Not a Movie. I should mention that this theme is named after one of my guilty pleasures of 80s television: Jessica Fletcher.

As always, GodlessGirl.com is a work in progress (especially since my old CSS doesn’t match this one, so subheads and captions look a bit off). But enough about code… it’s purtyful.

I’m diving into light, bright, and white: White space, bright colors, and light, airy tones of everything from music to interior design to emotion. Bring on the cheerfulness, the gaiety, the delight, and the deep breaths.

Godlessgirl.com has been live to the world for one whole year! Every single cliché about time passing you by, flying, or otherwise moving swiftly applies here. When I decided to create this blog, I was certain I would become some sort of internet phenom, bursting onto the blogging scene with something new and different that would charm the readers into subscribing, commenting, and loving me into online stardom.

A girl’s gotta dream, right? As I discovered after beginning Godlessgirl.com, I am only one rather unremarkable voice within a chorus of thousands. I gathered no fame, no large following, and (I am rather surprised to say) no hate mail. Am I disappointed? No. I’m thrilled to have a community around me of writers, thinkers, and friends whom I admire and enjoy. I especially want to send a shoutout to my tweathens! Thank you for being there for me and supporting my copious rants, links, updates, and musings. I may never be someone truly remarkable, but I know this blog has helped me make the startling and stuttering transition from “newborn angry closet atheist” to “more relaxed ready to come out atheist”. I’m on my way!

Well, at least that’s the plot of the 1929 silent film The Godless Girl, directed by Cecil B. DeMille. When I was searching for a domain name to house my heathen bloggy bits, I stumbled on this movie. After reading the charged plot and, frankly, loving the alliteration of the name, I took the moniker for myself. The film illustrates plainly how atheists have been vilified in society. The introduction reads:

It is not generally known that there are Atheist Societies using the schools of the country as their battleground — attacking, through the Youth of the Nation, the beliefs that are sacred to most of the people. And no fanatics are so bitter as youthful fanatics.

Battleground! Attacking sacred beliefs! Fanatics! Gee, tell me how you really feel. Check out the first 5 minutes of The Godless Girl below:

However, Being the chick of change that I am, this could not last. I like bright and shiny too much to stick with old and busted. It got too cluttered, required too much hard-coding, and I wanted more space to spread out.

Enter: New themey goodness: two columns, no clutter, more automation for my lazy arse, and I just plain dig it.
