Your Daily Woo: The Theme Song!

If you’re a fan of skepticism, science, and laughs, you’ll adore my favorite musical comic, Tim Minchin (possibly bumping the late, great Victor Borge down a notch). What I would give to see him perform live! He has the perfect song to illustrate the skeptic’s view of woo: “If You Open Your Mind Too Much Your Brain Will Fall Out (Take My Wife)”

You can download an mp3 of this song (and others) here!

Bonus! His long-and-worth-every-second hilarious beat poem “Storm” slams woo with crisp, creative rhyme. Tim, my mind is humping you! Hope that’s okay with your wife.

P.S. Did you know that my pet term “dewoosional” is now up on urbandictionary.com? Now you do.

Punch Jesus in the Face

If you punched Jesus in the face, would he forgive you?

Kids say the darnedest things, especially when dissecting the myths and teachings about the Bible. Check out this funny clip from the British sitcom Outnumbered. The best part is watching the vicar squirm as theories and challenges come flying at him from all sides.

I think my favorite part is the bit about Jesus dying for us. “That’s a bit selfish of humankind, isn’t it?” asks Ben. The little girl then wonders if Jesus could have written to somebody asking them to be better before something bad happened. These children are brilliant!

Awesomely bad!

Nothing says “Jesus loves you” like some cheesy, contemporary Christian videos marked by religious buzzwords and poor production value.

First, some clips from what was probably a how-to video on witnessing to a rebellious non-believer. Don’t buy in, Rob!

Then, the Christo-stylings of the Walk Away the Pounds videos, praising Jesus and shouting “hallelujah!”

And finally, let’s end today’s session with a prayerful sacred dance. This brings back all kinds of memories. In fact, some of my friends do dance like this, seeing it as a calling.

Why is it that all sacred dancers wear the same outfits and scoot and flutter in the same ways? And how should an atheist dance?
Oh wait, here we go!
